What is Synplant 2?

Synplant 2 is a software synthesizer made by Sonic Charge that generates synth patches from audio recordings using AI-driven genetic algorithms. Instead of manually adjusting parameters, users provide audio samples and the tool automatically derives optimal synthesizer settings to recreate the tonal characteristics of the input sound.

The core feature is Genopatch technology, which analyzes audio files and translates their sonic properties into synth patch parameters. The system works entirely offline on the user's local machine, requiring no internet connection. As Genopatch processes a sample, its visual interface displays branching strands that grow and evolve, representing the synthesis parameters being optimized. The matching process balances precision with unpredictability—sometimes producing exact recreations, other times generating unexpected variations suitable for further exploration. Users can start from random seeds, existing patches, or Genopatch-generated results, then refine sounds using an intuitive DNA Editor that displays envelopes, oscillator types, filters, and other synthesis parameters in graphical format. The tool supports both polyphonic and monophonic play modes with portamento, tempo sync, and velocity sensitivity for expressive performance. A layer mode enables building complex, multi-dimensional textures by stacking variations at different MIDI velocities.

Synplant 2 functions as a VST plugin on Windows (VST 2.4 or VST3) and macOS (VST 2.4, VST3, or Audio Units 2), with a stand-alone version available on macOS. System requirements include Windows XP or later with 2GHz Intel Core processor, or macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or later with equivalent specs.
